Naresh Vissa Many authoritarian policies could potentially cut the welfare state.  Forcibly sterilizing certain ethnic populations would also likely slow the growth of the welfare state.  Should we do that as well?  Should we imprison debtors?  Should  we ban socialist literature? I hope you can see that "cutting the welfare state" can be used to justify all sorts of horrific authoritarian policies.
