Ben Feral Selinger I agree with your analysis regarding the ultimate futility of trying to stymie AI development.  However, Kat isn't there yet. The coordinated effort by the US government to try to stop AI development could cause a great deal of harm, even if it ultimately proves futile.  The War on Drugs has been shown to be futile for decades, yet hundreds of thousands of people have been imprisoned and billions have been wasted.
