# Zera Nativists are not against legal immigration in the same way that...

*February 14, 2025 — Comment Archer T. Ships replied to Praveen Sinha's comment.*

Zera Nativists are not against legal immigration in the same way that NYC gun banners aren't against legal gun ownership. NYC's gun laws are so draconian that only a small number of people are issued gun permits (typically government officials and politically connected wealthy people). So are gun banners in favor of "legal" gun ownership? Yes. But do they want to deny guns to the vast majority of people who want guns? Yes. Likewise nativists are fine with "legal" immigration (1), as they know that the current immigration laws are so restrictive that only a tiny fraction of the people who would like to immigrate make it through the gauntlet. However, propose that the laws be changed such many more people could immigrate easily, and nativists will stridently oppose. That's because, just as gun banners hate/fear guns, nativists hate/fear immigrants. So nativists may not be against "legal" immigration, but they're certainly against allowing more people to immigrate legally. 1. This isn't strictly true. Many nativists would like to further constrict the trickle of legal immigrants. And a few would be open to increasing the numbers somewhat, but no where near the number who would likely immigrate if there were no immigration suppression laws.
