> Can some of you people please share some fiction that was written in the universe that you wish to create? The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress by Robert Heinlein Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson A Deepness in the Sky by Vernor Vinge > It's a land where we have a weak military, no social services, no regulation covering labor and environmental policies. I want all human interactions to be as consensual as possible, not just sex. There are many goods in the world, and I think people should be free to spend their money and time on the goods they value most. Now, like pollution, a certain amount of coercion may be necessary for human flourishing. For example, I think property rights are necessary for a healthy society. No one wants their stuff simply stolen from them by a bully. And no one will invest in long term projects (like growing crops), if the fruits and vegetables of their labor will be stolen by marauding bandits. Therefore, I think that we need to use some coercion to create and enforce property boundaires. But, like pollution, coercion per se is not desirable. It's something to be minimized as much as possible. I want the bar to using coercion to be quite high. Whenever possible, we should use voluntary alternatives to government services: https://archerships.substack.com/p/voluntary-alternatives-to-government > a weak military Unfortunately, authoritarians are quite aggressive. Fleeing to the wilderness is insufficient to escape their control: https://www.justice.gov/usao-edca/pr/manager-marijuana-cultivation-site-shasta-trinity-national-forest-sentenced-10-years We can't even escape to the middle of the ocean without being attacked by murderous tyrants: https://www.cnn.com/2019/04/19/asia/thai-sea-home-us-bitcoin-trader-scli-intl/index.html It seems that the only thing authoritarians respect is violence, so the only way libertarians will be left alone is if we build sufficient force of arms such that preying on us is not worth the cost. Something like the Swiss militaryl is probably the best we can do right now: https://www.irishtimes.com/world/europe/2024/06/21/neutrality-kept-switzerland-out-of-world-wars-but-it-was-not-a-synonym-for-antimilitarism/ > no social services Most social services can be replaced by voluntary alternatives. For example, proponents of a basic income could already provide a basic income to each other, without coercing those who don't want to participate: https://archerships.substack.com/p/the-porcupine-voluntary-basic-income > no regulation covering labor Many such laws are paternalist and harm the people they're nominally purported to help. For example, the first minimum wage laws were passed to make it more difficult for newly freed slaves to compete with whites: https://www.forbes.com/sites/carriesheffield/2014/04/29/on-the-historically-racist-motivations-behind-minimum-wage/ Such laws have similarly pernicious effect on low skill people today. Libertarians also actually believe "my body, my choice", so they take a dim view of paternalist regulations. Libertarians _do_ support laws against deception. They also support enforcing contracts. > environmental policies In a more libertarian world, there would likely be less pollution, as more things would have owners, instead existing as a commons. The owners would then be able to sue polluters for damages from pollution that crosses into their property. https://reason.com/volokh/2017/08/18/libertarianism-and-environment/?comments=true#comments
