Lhianna Boditoro Hostility to immigrants began long before the existence of the welfare state.  The Chinese Exclusion Act was passed in 1882, for example.  While I'm all for eliminating the welfare state, I don't think doing so would increase public support for eliminating immigration suppression laws very much.
