# John Althouse Cohen Historically, Republicans at least pretended to...

*February 26, 2025 — Comment Archer T. Ships replied to John Althouse Cohen's comment.*

John Althouse Cohen Historically, Republicans at least pretended to care about lowering taxes and limiting government. These days, neither progressives or conservatives are pro-"free markets". Trump wants hefty new taxes (tariffs), is hostile to free markets in labor, and wants the government to play a big government role in which companies win / lose in the marketplace.
