AI fearmongering  is just the latest in a long line of fearmongering (immigration, alcohol/drugs, nuclear power, overpopulation, peak oil, climate change, terrorism, Covid, etc) that authoritarians (mostly left-wing) use to seize more tax dollars and government power. If you want to make headway with AI doomer skeptics, consider what you would do if AI safety firms had to _persuade_ people to cooperate, instead of just extorting them for money and threatening to kill/cage them if they don't obey you.
