Anselm Hook If you think you're suffering too much, you can always kill yourself. Other humans have the same choice. That most choose not to do so suggests that they believe life is worth living. There are no gods to "permit" humans to do anything. Humans dominate other ecosystems because we can. The future "winners" will likely be those who have the strongest drive to reproduce + foster technological advances the fastest. Thankfully, neither economies nor ecologies are zero sum. The success of humans doesn't not require the deaths of other animals in the long run. In fact, humans and AI's are poised to open up the entire solar system to new life. And, empirically, humans are empathic toward other forms of life. Much of that new life that will expand into the rest of the solar system is likely to be companion plants and animals. Humans are also the only thing that could save all the other animals from extinction due to asteroid strike or solar flare.
