Do you think the US mass surveillance system is the only relevant data point? Totalitarian governments--complete with gulags/concentration camps, secret police, and mass spy operations--emerged many times, across multiple cultures. Such governments killed ~100 million of their own people in the 20th century. Yet, you dismiss this risk as "NBD"? But you want me to give people like you the power to nuke data centers that don't obey your AI policy dictates? To implant spyware/killswitches in every chip? To stifle indefinitely via government dictat potentially the most revolutionary industry that has ever existed? Even though almost no one has been killed by AI's to date?
