William Kiely I took Spencer's query as an attempt to understand the psychology of those who oppose the doomer's desire to cripple AI development indefinitely. Much of the answer, for me, is that I think a) preventing aging is a much more pressing problem, and b) efforts to stymie AI development will also drastically stymie anti-aging research. I also think the measures doomers want (mandatory spyware / killswitches embedded in chips, global police force empowered to launch rockets at disobedient data centers, etc) are totalitarian in nature. It was not an attempt to try to persuade Spencer (or anyone else) that they are wrong. (Which I don't expect to be possible in a FB comment, if it's possible at all).
