Adrian Scott From what I understand, Hauer chose bad scripts because he was an alcoholic. Once you reach a certain level of fame, you get to choose the scripts you help bring to life.   All of the actors I mention a) have the power to choose the projects they work on b) generally have good taste in scripts.
