Naima Zakaria Progressives often profess support for "enthusiastic consent" when it comes to sexual relationships. IMO, all human relationships--not just those in the bedroom--should be based on consent. All state-run, tax funded programs are coercive in nature. (You will be imprisoned or killed if you refuse to pay). I would not choose to pay for Medicare or Social Security if I were not coerced to do so. My proposal satisfies both those who want socialist programs and those, like myself, who want to opt out. There are more than enough Democrats in the US such that they could voluntarily contract to provide the services they want to each other. In addition to living more ethically, Democrats would also benefit by taking the programs out of the realm of politics, as people like me won't be constantly trying to kill or reduce the programs.
