Nancy Lebovitz FYI, the mainstream Mormon church doesn't throw away "excess" boys.  The "excess boys" phenomenon only happens with the splinter sects of Mormonism that still allow polygamy, which in modern times only consitute a small fraction of those who identify as Mormon.
