Judging from your photos, you enjoy an active night life.  So, I'd say SF. However, if you intend to be a homebody, East Palo Alto.   East Palo Alto is relatively inexpensive compared to the rest of the Bay Area, and it's a short trip to anywhere in Palo Alto.   I lived there for 3 years.     I can also recommend an Airbnb that's a nice place if you like to live with a number (7-14) of other people. Alameda is also great, one of my favorite places.  And the commute to SF via ferry/bike isn't bad.   Liz and Ulrich's place is lovely (right on the water), and they've attracted a large community of smart, accomplished people.   However, I wouldn't want to commute to SF by car.
