Slavery, torture, and coercive eugenics were once popular. In many places, it continues to be popular to cage sex workers, drug users, and gun buyers. So, that immigration suppression laws are popular is irrelevant to the question of whether they are just/right. And to claim that the people being deported are only (or even mostly) serious criminals is a lie.
