Joshua Goldbard Yes, there are protocols that are harder to break than Monero. Shielded Zcash, for example. (Unshielded Zcash, which is the default, offers no more privacy than Bitcoin.) But they often come with debilitating tradeoffs. Zcash was too processor intensive to run on cell phones until 2018 (two years after launch, four years after the launch of Monero). They didn't have a fully functional, open source wallet on mobile until 2020. Monero's security will improve quite a bit when Monero releases Full Chain Membership Proofs.
