Okay, but why would McDonald's keep the coffee so hot? It costs more money to keep the coffee at a higher temperature. IMO, it's because most customers wanted it that hot. That's because many customers buy a coffee on their way to work. If the coffee isn't extra hot to start, it will be cold by the time they get to work. Given the millions of customers McDonald's serves every year, a certain percentage are going to spill coffee on themselves. Just as a certain percentage of men will cut themselves on safety razors when shaving every morning. That doesn't mean that the companies selling safety razors did anything wrong by selling them sharp razors. It's just an inherent risk of the activity. And the same is true of buying a hot coffee.
