AGI is inevitable in the long run. But bad regulation can slow it down. The US didn't build any new nuke plants for 35 years (1978 - 2013) due to anti-nuke hysteria. GMO crops are banned in much of the world due to anti-biotech hysteria. These laws caused massive losses of life and wealth. 115,000 people die every day from aging. AGI's could accelerate the pace of discovery of anti-aging drugs. For every day that doomers delay cures for aging, 115000 people die. I don't want anti-aging research to be slowed for 35 years because doomers successfully persuaded government officials to impose boneheaded regulations.
