Should illegal aliens be allowed to drive on government roads?\
\
Hoppean libertarians often argue for authoritarian laws on the grounds that such laws more closely approximate the policies that would be in place in a society with a network of wholly voluntary, privately owned communities.\
\
For example, some libertarians defend the state of New Hampshire\'s recent decision to refuse to recognize the driver\'s licenses issued to illegal immigrants in other states, on the grounds that in Ancapistan, the roads would be privately owned, and private road owners would try to keep incompetent people off the roads.\
\
They argue that since illegal immigrants aren\'t as competent as drivers, and don\'t follow the rules of the road very well, private road owners would bar them from the use of private roads.\
\
Therefore, governments should do the same.\
\
I argue against this position, and make the case that granting road access to anyone who:\
\
(a) demonstrates competency by passing skills based driving tests\
(b) follows safe driving practices\
(c) pays their share of the costs\
\
\...more closely approximate the rules of the ideal libertarian system.\
