The Amish don't reject modernity uniformly.  They reject those aspects of modernity that they think pose too much risk of leading their people away from God and their community.  So no cars, no cell phones, no internet.  But they often have landlines that they use for business or emergencies.   Or, as in this case, motorized farm equipment.
