Humans have flawed brains that do not easily recognize immoral, irrational, or evil beliefs. Our rational faculties can be easily overridden by fear, anger, and hatred. We’re not so far evolved from the great apes of Africa, after all. As a result, we are capable of believing in evil ideologies for long periods. For example, there were undoubtedly many kind and loving fathers among the die-hard supporters of the Hitler, Stalin, and Mao regimes. One can simultaneously mourn the loss of a child’s kind and loving father while also cheering the end of an enemy of liberty and civil society.
