Bill Rugolsky. What authoritarian doesn't claim that their dictates are necessary?  The same argument can be used to justify any authoritarianism. We can't have free speech, until all of the communists have been driven from the university. We can't have guns, because crime/accident victims place too heavy a burden on the socialist healthcare system. We can't have drugs, because heroin addicts place too high a burden on emergency rooms. You can't have freedom of religion, because some people might choose to become Muslim terrorists. You're just advancing the authoritarian ratchet, using previous authoritarian policies to justify more authoritarian policies.
