Sean Cusack Yes, libertarians are often early.  We supported gay rights back in the 70's (when the LP was founded) when being gay was considered a disease and a crime.  Obama and Clinton didn't "evolve" on the issue until the 2010's, when polls said that it was a sufficiently popular position. Change is driven by the people who push the Overton window, not the people who do whatever is currently popular.
