John M. Mundy "Neither is in itself “big government “" The more taxes the government consumes, the more laws the public is subject to, the bigger the government. DHS budget ($116 billion) is now larger than all other national militaries (save the US, China, and Russia). ICE alone now has a budget bigger than the Marines ($75 billion vs $58 billion). DHS spending is ≈ 1.7% (116 B / 6.8T )of total government outlays. By comparison, the Nazi Gestapo was roughly 0.2% of total Reich spending. The East German Stasi consumed an estimated 0.6% of the total East German budget. KGB was also about 0.6% of total Russian budget. Trump administration is now having people executed without trial, deploying military troops against US citizens, and nationalizing US firms. How much bigger must the government get before you'd consider it big government?
