Issac Trotts Yes, and Republicans say they are for low taxes, low regulation, and private property rights.  But that's not what they promote when they are in office.  Likewise, most (all?)  socialist states have strict immigration suppression laws, both on exit and entry.  See Soviet Union, China, Nork Korea, Cuba, Venezuela, etc. And, even in the US, socialists / fellow travelors oppose immigration.   The first immigration suppression laws were passed at the behest of white labor unions.  Cesar Chavez was virulently opposed to Mexican immigration. Isolated states and populations are poor and militarily weak. 70-80% of Native Americans, isolated from Europe and Asia, were wiped out by diseases they would have developed an immunity to, had they been intermingling.  They were also backward scientifically and economically, and could not mount an effective defense. The militaries of isolationist Japan and China were wiped out by the military of the  British.  The US won the Cold War because we had overwhelming military and economic power, much of which was created by immigrant scientists and entrepreneurs.  (We would have had much more, had we let the Jews and other people murdered by the Nazis flee to the US.)
