Pitch meeting: A continent spanning high speed, censorship resistant mesh network built using 3d-printable, solar powered, low cost drone robots that can fly and cling to branches with “free-space optics” (FSO) lasers and reticulum network nodes in their heads.

The goal would be to reach a price point that you could toss hundreds of them into a field, and they would automatically spread out and climb to high points (trees, telephone poles, building roofs) and form a mesh network. If weather (fog, rain, smoke) blocks their line of sight, they would move until they can re-establish a connection.

If any given drone is damaged or stolen, they could be replaced cost effectively.

"Attochron, which completed a $15 million funding round in July, says it has begun low-rate production of its main hardware product, called ALTIS-7, which includes a receiver and a transmitter and looks vaguely like a security camera.
...
The laser link stretched over 1.5 miles at a speed of 1.25 Gigabits per second, and the company says it has achieved a top speed of just over 10 Gigabits, which is on par with the fastest fiber-optic business connectivity."
