Vendor acceptance of Bitcoin has declined substantially since 2017. That's because it became so popular that transaction times and network fees ballooned to the point that it became impractical to use for most day to day transactions.\
\
Satoshi anticipated that this would happen, and he expected that the blocksize would increase to accommodate the higher volume.\
\
However, Bitcoin was hijacked by a cabal of developers (Blockstream) who stifled those updates so that people would be forced to use their second layer solutions (for a fee). They also heavily suppressed those who objected to this, causing the community to fracture into multiple competing projects (Ethereum, Monero, Zcash, etc).\
\
However, their second layer solutions (lightning) proved to be almost as costly, cumbersome, and surveiled as Bitcoin itself. As a result, Bitcoin maxis have downplayed Bitcoin's original intent (p2p electronic cash) and only emphasize its use as a "store of value".\
\
Nowadays the crypto Nazgul that Bitcoin maxis have become spend more effort lobbying the government to buy their bags than they do improving Bitcoin's protocol.\
\
See Roger Vers book "Hijacking Bitcoin" for the story of how this happened.\
\
True cypherpunks still aim to replace inflationary fiat with p2p, censorship-resistant, inflationary-resistant crypocurrency. IMO, Monero is the closest to what Bitcoin was intended to become. Monero has almost wholly displaced Bitcoin on the darknet markets. Zcash, Zano, Tari, and Darkfi are also worthy projects.\
