> can you explain how new NH state laws that mandate that city law enforcement cooperate with ICE are socialist?
Sure!
Libertarians typically believe:
* all humans have individual rights. Among these rights include: private property , free trade, and freedom of association.
* no one's liberty should be denied to them unless and until they commit a crime (with real victims), as determined in a just court trial.
* the government exists solely to protect individual rights. Government officials are our proxies and may not ethically do anything that citizens cannot themselves do. The Federal government's powers are strictly limited to what is allowed in the Constitution.
Immigration suppression laws violate all of those principles.
* In a free market system, property owners decide who is allowed onto their property (as a friend, renter, or new hire). In socialist systems, a distant, centralized government bureaucracy makes those decisions for everyone.
* Immigration suppression laws strip immigrants of their liberty based not on the commission of a crime, but on where they were born.
* There is no provision in the Constitution that grants the Federal government the power to dictate who may live and work in the US. That power was invented by the courts a century after the founding of the country.
All socialist states strictly control the movement of people both in and out of the country. In the US, most of the immigration suppression laws on the books were created in order to placate labor unions, beginning with the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 (unions didn't like the fact that Chinese laborers were willing to work harder for less money). (See link below for more on the history of socialist support for immigration suppression laws).
Moreover, the Free State Project depends for its success on the freedom of liberty lovers to move to NH. Both Jason Osborne and Jeremy Kauffman exercised this liberty when they moved to New Hampshire from other states.
It's therefore both socialist and hypocritical to collude with the Federal government to kidnap people whose only "crime" was to move to NH without the government's permission.
