Google is planning to force all Android developers to submit identifying information, beginning in 2026, and globally in 2027.
If you want the freedom to install the apps of your choosing, I encourage you to install, learn, and use the following:
GrapheneOS – most secure and private Android alternative (requires a Google Pixel phone)
AXP.OS – sister project to GrapheneOS that works on many older and non-Pixel phones
Obtainium – app installer that pulls directly from developer repositories
F-Droid – app installer restricted to open source apps only
GrapheneOS developers are also in partnership with an as yet unnamed OEM hardware vendor to provide an alternative to Google’s own hardware. Watch for a release in late 2026 or 2027.
