The two largest cruise lines, Royal Caribbean and Carnival have ship capacities of 77,950 and 66,320 passengers respectively. By comparison, Monaco and Lichtenstein have populations of around 40,000 residents. I wonder what would happen if Royal Caribbean and Carnival sought U.N. recognition as independent nation states? Would there be any advantage to doing so?
Has anyone done research on the "minimum viable nation"? Under what conditions is a nation is likely to be conquered by another nation vs. being left alone? Clearly, it's not just population, but location, geography, regional alliances, wealth, and so on.
