I wish Burning Man would adopt Dutch Auctions for ticket sales, as detailed by Brad Templeton:

https://eplaya.burningman.org/viewtopic.php?t=73111

Advantages:

* Encourages people to enter the amount at which they truly value their tickets
* Almost all value goes to the org, not to scalpers
* No rush to bid--everyone can enter their bids at their leisure over say, a week, with an equal chance of getting a ticket. People who have jobs that don't let them hover at their browser window aren't discriminated against
* Everyone who buys a ticket pays the same price
* You can assure that either you and your friends all get tickets or not by bidding the same price

Disadvantages:

* It allocates by willingness and ability to pay, instead of willingness and ability to stand in line (the current system). This annoys/outrages a lot of hippies.
* Most people don't have a lot of experience with Dutch Auctions, so there will be a learning curve.
