I'm ambivalent about vaccine passports.

On the one hand, I think people have the right to associate (or not) with whom they please. I don't have a problem with private citizens who only want to associate with people who have been vaccinated.

On the other, a lot of institutions are state-run (schools, DMV, etc) or de facto state-run (airlines, post offices). And the idea of being compelled to obey state health mandates or be cut off from vital / legally mandated services is repulsive.

And I don't think such passports will be "voluntary" for long, and will be difficult to reverse once implemented.

Remember, travel passports themselves were originally a "temporary" war measure:

Of course, passport laws were never repealed, and now most people don't even question the government's power to dictate where you can travel.
